Canberra hospital - CENTER for teaching, training & research

Location: GARRAN, A.C.T

Project description:

The design for The Centre for Health Teaching, Training and Research was completed to pre-Tender stage and was not continued due to financing and decanting issues arising from the rebuilding of the main hospital building.

The design achieved a sustainable, highly efficient building which increased ceiling heights, used 100% fresh air in teaching spaces and used the building structure to provide thermal storage and reduce cooling loads.

Extensive meeting and break out areas bordering the teaching and circulation areas to provide ‘incidental’ opportunities for the exchange of ideas amongst health academics, researchers, care providers, staff and students. The design created engaging spaces conducive to interaction and the sharing of knowledge, with a teaching media and broadcast capacity which would bring it to the forefront as an educational facility.

The features of our engagement and design included:

  • Extensive site analysis

  • A Stakeholder and user group consultation process

  • Return brief with stakeholder analysis and sign off, area analysis, room data sheets, spatial relationship diagrams and statements of design intent

  • Coordinated a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, structural and environmental engineers for this project

  • 5323m2
