Concept design of interior and exterior works, and more detailed development of one section of 10,000 m2 which included: main food court, amusement cinema complex, shopping areas, supermarket, vertical transportation and car parking.
The design featured extensive gluelam timber beams in organic patterns and a sky lighting arrangement to draw natural light vertically to the ground floor. Orientation and shading devices minimised excessive heat gain, while providing a sensation of openness within the centre.
magna carta monument
The Magna Carta Monument, adjacent to Old Parliament House in Canberra, was Alastair Falconer’s winning entry in an international design competition for a monument commemorating Australia's legal principles. The project was carried out from concept design through to construction supervision. The monument creates a sense of place and engages both symbolic and literal representations of time and history in its design. Integral with the form of the monument is the visual and text information linking the relevance of the Magna Carta to recent political and legal history.
