education

amaroo extension
This extension to the library building provided six new classrooms to replace temporary accommodation; and a central multi use area adjacent to the classrooms, for increased library facilities and e-learning space. The design extruded the main volume of the building with new lower roofs on both sides. Additional elements included kitchenette, store room, disabled toilet and a playground sun shading structure. The building form is passively energy efficient with controlled solar performance, increased levels of insulation and an automated ventilation control and night purge system.
woden Primary
Design and documentation of three new classrooms with multi-use wet and dry areas, for students with special learning needs. The facilities were added onto the existing building fabric in an aesthetically seamless extension, incorporating the existing style and detailing of the school exterior, while enhancing the accessibility and light quality of the interior. The new works captured natural lighting and used large easy to use sliding panels for increased connection and flow to garden.
Malkara school, ACT
Comprehensive fit-out and structural changes to three classrooms and ablutions areas.
Malkara School provides education for students with a significant intellectual disability and other associated impairments in a positive, student centred environment. The upgrade responded to the school’s philosophy of providing engaging multi use spaces with natural light, indoor-outdoor connections and colourful soft patterning. The classrooms also fulfilled specific functional needs including noise absorption through the use of linings of ceilings and walls and the balance between privacy; and supervision for ablution areas.
