The Lodge

LOCATION: DEAKIN, A.C.T

BUDGET: $8.8 million

CLIENT: department of finance & deregulation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Refurbishment Works Project at The Lodge works were undertaken in accordance with the heritage requirements of a Commonwealth Heritage Listed place. Great care was taken to provide a high quality of finish within the context of the existing building aesthetic. This was  particularly true with respect to the front of house bathrooms and kitchenettes.

With the new balustrade to the balconies the approach was taken to retain the existing balustrade and top rail and set back from the edge the new height compliant non-reflective glass balustrade. The success of this intervention comes from the inconspicuous nature of this balustrade when viewing the house.

Other key features of the project included:

  • Substantial demolition within the back of house areas

  • Removal of hazardous materials

  • New commercial kitchen facility within the existing fabric of the building

  • Complete stripping and provision of new of mechanical heating, cooling and electrical services

  • Close coordination with heritage consultants

  • New bathrooms kitchenettes and wet areas

  • New insulated slate roof with copper flashings and rainwater goods
